On October 22, 2025, the Society for the Relief of Disabled Children (SRDC) in Hong Kong celebrated its 70th anniversary, marking seven decades of commitment to supporting children with disabilities. Founded in 1955, the organization has provided life-changing care, advocacy, and resources to children and their families, evolving into a leader in this vital sector.

To commemorate this significant milestone, SRDC is hosting various events and fundraising initiatives throughout the year. One of the highlights is the “SRDC – Pioneers for 70 Years – Impact Story Exhibition,” which opened at Pacific Place in Admiralty and will run until October 26, 2025. The exhibition aims to showcase the transformative stories of individuals the organization has aided over the years.

Launch of New Initiative and Fundraising Goals

At the exhibition’s opening ceremony, officiated by Dr. Cecilia Fan Yuen-man, the Under Secretary for Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, dignitaries including Mr. FAN Hung Ling, Henry, Chairman of the Hospital Authority, were in attendance to honor SRDC’s legacy.

Soon to follow is the annual Sandy Bay Hospital Charity Bazaar on November 15, 2025, which aims to raise funds to enhance medical equipment at the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital. Additionally, the organization will host its famous Christmas Day Parade and Santa’s Christmas lunch for children at the hospital on December 25, 2025.

TT Cheung, Chairman of SRDC, emphasized the organization’s commitment to the community, stating, “Our 70th anniversary is a celebration of the extraordinary journey we have undertaken together with our community. It is a testament to the collective efforts of our supporters and partners who have worked tirelessly to ensure every child with special needs receives the support they need to thrive.”

As part of the celebrations, SRDC is launching a new initiative named “Bring The Children Home,” aimed at underprivileged families in Hong Kong. The programme will offer essential support for homecare and establish robust support networks for families with ventilator-assisted children transitioning from hospital to home. The organization seeks to raise HK$5 million in donations to support this and other impactful initiatives.

Looking to the Future

Reflecting on its extensive history, SRDC is also focusing on the future, aiming to enhance its programs through innovation and inclusivity. Plans include the adoption of new rehabilitation technologies and advocating for policies that promote equal opportunities for children with disabilities in Hong Kong.

The community is invited to participate in the anniversary celebrations, particularly at the upcoming charity bazaar, where contributions will ensure SRDC can continue its vital mission. Cheung reiterated the importance of community involvement, saying, “We look forward to welcoming more donors to join hands with us in giving these children a brighter and more promising future.”

As part of the anniversary, SRDC has shared testimonials from individuals whose lives have been positively impacted by its efforts. One testimonial highlights the resilience of individuals with disabilities, with one participant stating, “I am a person with a disability, but I am also the master of my own life. As long as I have dreams in my heart and strive to improve, I can soar and let the flower of my dreams bloom.”
