Scheffler and McIlroy Nominated for PGA Tour Player of the Year
The nominations for the prestigious Jack Nicklaus Award, honoring the PGA Tour Player of the Year, have been announced, featuring top golfers Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. The PGA Tour revealed the nominees on December 3, highlighting the remarkable achievements of these players during the 2025 season.
Scheffler, the world number one, claimed six titles in 2025, including two major championships—the PGA Championship and the British Open. His impressive performance included a record of 17 top-10 finishes, and he successfully made the cut in all tournaments he entered. With these victories, he has increased his career major tally to four and is now just one win away from achieving the career Grand Slam, a feat accomplished by only six golfers in history.
McIlroy, hailing from Northern Ireland, also had a stellar year, securing three titles. His most notable triumph came at Augusta National Golf Club in April, where he emerged victorious in a dramatic two-man sudden-death playoff. This victory marked the end of an 11-year major drought for McIlroy, a significant milestone after facing numerous challenges at this iconic venue.
In addition to Scheffler and McIlroy, the nominees for the Player of the Year award include Tommy Fleetwood, who clinched the FedExCup title and its accompanying prize of $10 million after winning the Tour Championship in August, and Ben Griffin, who achieved three victories throughout the season.
Rookie of the Year Nominees Announced
The PGA Tour also announced the nominees for the Arnold Palmer Award, which recognizes the Rookie of the Year. The nominees include South African Aldrich Potgieter and Australian Karl Vilips, alongside American players Michael Brennan, Steven Fisk, and William Mouw.
Voting for both awards is open to PGA Tour members who have played at least 15 official FedExCup events during the 2025 season. The ballot will close on December 12, with the winners set to be announced at a later date. This year’s nominees reflect a highly competitive season, showcasing the talent and determination of the players on the PGA Tour.
