Hong Kong Hosts Global Fashion and Business Conference
On December 9, 2025, the WWD x SJ Global Fashion & Business Conference and WWD Fashion Loves Culture Gala took place in Hong Kong, showcasing the city’s role as a pivotal hub in the global fashion landscape. This event was co-presented by leading fashion media outlets Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) and Sourcing Journal (SJ), in partnership with the Hong Kong Fashion Council (HKFC). The gathering was part of the second edition of Hong Kong Fashion Fest, which ran from November 22 to December 7, 2025, under the auspices of the Hong Kong government’s Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency.
Insights from Industry Leaders
The morning conference attracted global leaders from fashion, retail, and manufacturing, focusing on how innovation, trade, and cultural dynamics are reshaping the industry. It served as a platform for discussions that underscored Hong Kong’s unique position as a crossroads of style. Attendees engaged in dialogues that explored the influence of both Asian and Western aesthetics on contemporary fashion.
Speakers included prominent figures such as Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Kim Jones Studio; Fausto Puglisi, Creative Director of Roberto Cavalli; and renowned designer Jason Wu. They highlighted how storytelling in fashion can resonate across diverse markets, fostering community and enhancing brand value. The conference also delved into the importance of heritage and craftsmanship in informing modern designs.
Critical industry challenges, such as global sourcing uncertainties and sustainable innovations, were also addressed. The panels emphasized how Hong Kong’s strategic adaptation and technological advancements position it as a leader in the evolving fashion landscape.
“Hong Kong has long stood at the intersection of craftsmanship and commerce,” stated Amanda Smith, CEO of Fairchild Media Group. “This conference represents a natural next step in expanding our international event portfolio.”
A Night of Cultural Celebration
The day culminated in the WWD Fashion Loves Culture Gala, bringing together a blend of local and international celebrities. The evening was graced by the presence of Mr. Raistlin Lau, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, and other dignitaries. The gala celebrated Hong Kong’s reputation as a creative powerhouse, featuring notable guests such as actors Damson Idris, Kiernan Shipka, and Thanaerng.
Guests enjoyed a vibrant cocktail hour before dinner, complete with a unique Glambot photo experience. The evening featured a dynamic lion dance performance, merging traditional Chinese culture with modern interpretations through taiko drumming and hip-hop elements. This was followed by a compelling recital from Rachel Cheung, a celebrated pianist recognized as a Steinway Artist.
The gala closed with a stunning duet by Cheung and cellist Trey Lee, who has been praised for his exceptional talent. This blend of tradition and innovation showcased the richness of Hong Kong’s cultural heritage through world-class artistry.
Supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, the events highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a central figure in global fashion and cultural exchange, solidifying its status as an East-meets-West nexus. The Hong Kong Fashion Fest aims to attract fashion enthusiasts and industry leaders from around the world, setting a new benchmark for fashion festivals in the region.
