Singaporean Actor Leon Jay Williams Reveals Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis
Singaporean actor Leon Jay Williams announced on December 9, 2023, that he has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The 49-year-old star, who is represented by Mediacorp’s The Celebrity Agency, shared the news through his social media platforms, revealing that he received the diagnosis two months prior.
In his heartfelt message, Williams expressed his determination to face his health challenges with a positive outlook. “After the reality set in, I decided to face the consequences positively,” he wrote. Following two surgeries and radiation therapy, he noted that while he has made progress, the battle against cancer is ongoing. “Things are looking up and the battle is won for now, but the war with cancer isn’t over,” he added.
Ongoing Treatment and Family Support
Williams explained that his new routine involves monthly medical visits for blood tests and daily medication that he will need to take for the rest of his life. He emphasized the unpredictability of the disease, stating, “We are all just at the mercy of what’s waiting to happen next. It is also always mostly out of our control.” He encouraged others to maintain a positive perspective in the face of adversity, saying, “You can either be negative and give up, or you can seek the most positive way forward, even if it hurts.”
The actor highlighted the crucial role his family has played during this challenging time. Williams, who has a daughter with his Taiwanese wife, shared that he could not have navigated the past few months without their unwavering support. “Family is so important,” he declared, acknowledging the emotional strength they provide.
