Smashbox Launches Photo Finish Primer at Magic Castle Dinner
Smashbox Cosmetics celebrated the launch of its new Photo Finish Pore Vanishing Primer with an exclusive dinner at the renowned Magic Castle in Los Angeles on October 29, 2025. The event brought together a select group of Australian creators, journalists, and brand associates based in Los Angeles, aiming to enhance product awareness while fostering connections within the beauty community.
The choice of the Magic Castle as the venue cleverly mirrored the primer’s “vanishing” properties. Guests enjoyed an enchanting evening surrounded by the whimsical atmosphere of the castle, which is known for its magic shows and illusions. Notable attendees included Australian journalist Isabelle Truman and influencers Eden Kannourakis, Millie Sykes, Paige De Cinque, and Kat Moses.
During the event, Davis Factor, the founder of Smashbox and a renowned photographer, engaged with guests and shared insights about the new product. Each attendee received a signed copy of his book, Make Shit Happen, further emphasizing the brand’s commitment to creativity and inspiration. Truman expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “I’ve always wanted to go to the Magic Castle, and being there with such an iconic brand was the perfect match.”
The new Photo Finish Pore Vanishing Primer is designed to deliver a flawless complexion. This lightweight, oil-free primer blurs the appearance of pores and keeps makeup intact for up to 12 hours. It also controls shine, smooths skin texture, and provides a velvety matte finish without leaving a white cast or clogging pores. The product retails for $59 AUD and $66 NZD, available through MECCA, Smashbox’s exclusive retail partner in Australia and New Zealand.
Influencer Eden Kannourakis shared her enthusiasm about the primer, stating, “I’m sometimes skeptical of primers, but this one really does what it says – makes my skin and makeup look flawless!” The event generated a wealth of content, including ‘Get Ready With Me’ videos, showcasing the product’s performance and helping to solidify authentic connections between Smashbox and the creator community.
This gathering marked a significant moment for Smashbox as it was the first event held in Los Angeles specifically targeting the Australian and New Zealand markets. Felix Backhaus, Smashbox Senior Brand Manager of International Markets, remarked, “Smashbox’s home is LA, and it’s been so great to engage with Australian influencers and editors in our own backyard.”
Founded in a Los Angeles photo studio in 1990 by Davis Factor, Smashbox quickly became a hub for creative professionals in the industry. The brand officially launched its cosmetic line in 1996 and has since developed iconic products, including the original Photo Finish Smooth & Blur primer released in 2000. Today, Smashbox continues to uphold its legacy by offering high-performance makeup designed for both artistic expression and everyday use.
