Quah Ting Wen Shatters SEA Games Medal Record with 63 Wins
Swimmer Quah Ting Wen has set a remarkable milestone in Singapore’s sports history by becoming the nation’s most decorated athlete at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). On December 13, 2023, during a competitive event in Bangkok, Quah clinched the gold medal in the women’s 100m butterfly, bringing her total medal count to 63 and surpassing the previous record of 62 held by legendary swimmer Joscelin Yeo.
This victory marks a significant achievement in Quah’s illustrious career, which began with her SEA Games debut in 2005. Now at 33 years old, this is her tenth appearance at the biennial event, where she has consistently showcased her talent and determination. So far in this edition of the Games, she has secured three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Singapore Aquatics (SAQ) celebrated Quah’s outstanding accomplishment in a Facebook post, describing her journey as one characterized by “grit, longevity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.” The organization praised her achievement as a “powerful testament to consistency at the highest level.”
“What an extraordinary achievement, and what a powerful testament to consistency at the highest level,” said SAQ in their statement. “We also take this moment to honour Joscelin Yeo, whose record stood tall for many years and inspired generations of swimmers who followed.”
Quah’s success is not just a personal victory but a significant moment for Singapore swimming, illustrating the depth and legacy of the sport in the country. The SAQ noted that this “passing of the torch reflects the depth, legacy, and enduring strength of Singapore swimming.”
