Hong Kong Hosts WWD x SJ Global Fashion Conference and Gala
Leading fashion media outlets, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) and Sourcing Journal (SJ), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Fashion Council (HKFC), hosted the WWD x SJ Global Fashion & Business Conference and WWD Fashion Loves Culture Gala at the Regent Hong Kong in November 2025. This event was part of the second edition of the Hong Kong Fashion Fest, a government-supported initiative aimed at highlighting the city’s role in global fashion and culture.
The conference gathered influential figures from the fashion, retail, and manufacturing sectors, focusing on how innovation and cultural exchange are redefining the industry. Attendees included notable industry leaders such as Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Kim Jones Studio; Jason Wu, renowned fashion designer; and Fausto Puglisi, Creative Director of Roberto Cavalli.
Insights into Fashion’s Future
During the conference, discussions revolved around the dynamic nature of fashion and the importance of storytelling in connecting brands with diverse markets. Participants examined Hong Kong’s unique position as a cultural crossroads, where local influences meet global trends. The event also tackled critical topics such as sustainable practices in fashion and the need for strategic adaptation in response to trade uncertainties.
Amanda Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Fairchild Media Group, emphasized the significance of this conference, stating, “Hong Kong has long stood at the intersection of craftsmanship and commerce. This event represents a natural next step in our growing international event portfolio.”
The conference highlighted how traditional craftsmanship influences modern design, with many brands aspiring to create timeless pieces. It also underscored the importance of heritage in shaping future collections, reinforcing the idea that modern fashion can draw from the past to inspire innovative designs.
A Night of Cultural Celebration
The festivities continued with the WWD Fashion Loves Culture Gala, where local and international celebrities gathered to celebrate Hong Kong’s creative spirit. The guest of honour, Mr. Raistlin Lau, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, joined industry leaders and global fashion icons to honor the city’s vibrant role in the fashion landscape.
Celebrities in attendance included acclaimed actors such as Damson Idris, Kiernan Shipka, and Thanaerng, alongside renowned models and influencers. The gala showcased a blend of culture and fashion, featuring a striking lion dance performance infused with modern elements, as well as a captivating recital by pianist Rachel Cheung. The evening culminated in a duet performance by Cheung and cellist Trey Lee, further emphasizing the fusion of tradition and contemporary artistry.
The Hong Kong Fashion Fest, which ran from November 22 to December 7, 2025, aimed to position the city as a leading fashion hub by promoting digital and sustainable fashion. This year’s events attracted a diverse range of participants, from industry professionals to fashion enthusiasts, solidifying Hong Kong’s status as a key player in international cultural exchange.
The partnership between Fairchild Media Group and the Hong Kong Fashion Council represents a significant step towards fostering innovation and collaboration within the fashion industry. As the festival continues to develop, it seeks to enhance Hong Kong’s reputation as a dynamic center for creativity and style on the global stage.
