TÜV SÜD and Hong Kong Krauts Collaborate for Beach Clean-Up
TÜV SÜD Hong Kong partnered with local football club Hong Kong Krauts and environmental organization Green Hope for a coastal and trail clean-up at Tiger Rock Beach in Sai Kung on November 27, 2025. This initiative aimed to address marine litter and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, showcasing TÜV SÜD’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Clean-Up Efforts Yield Significant Results
Dedicating their efforts to restoring the coastline, the team hiked to Tiger Rock Beach while collecting waste along the trail. Upon arrival, they focused on cleaning the shoreline, successfully removing 35 bags of rubbish weighing approximately 108 kilograms within just 1.5 hours. The collected materials included plastic bottles, polystyrene boxes, and discarded fishing lines and nets, all of which pose a severe threat to marine ecosystems.
Plastic waste can linger in the environment for decades, breaking down into microplastics that enter the food chain, affecting marine life and human health. Abandoned fishing gear, commonly known as “ghost nets,” continues to trap marine animals long after being discarded. Participants in the clean-up gained a valuable understanding of the urgency surrounding marine pollution and solidified their commitment to ongoing environmental protection.
Commitment to Sustainability
The clean-up reflects TÜV SÜD’s broader dedication to corporate social responsibility. As a global organization, TÜV SÜD offers comprehensive solutions in safety, security, and sustainability, ensuring that environmental awareness is integrated into its core services. The company provides clients with end-to-end support in achieving carbon neutrality and sustainable development.
Mr. Andrew Lee, Chief Financial Officer of TÜV SÜD North Asia, emphasized the company’s dual commitment: “We are committed not only to protecting the environment through action but also to extending the principles of sustainable development across industries through our professional services. Moving forward, we will continue to support and organize initiatives of this kind, leveraging TÜV SÜD’s technical strengths in low-carbon solutions and ESG to help society progress towards a more sustainable future.”
Founded in 1866 as a steam boiler inspection association, the TÜV SÜD Group has since evolved into a global enterprise with nearly 30,000 employees across over 1,000 locations. The organization plays a crucial role in enhancing the safety and reliability of technological innovations, including Industry 4.0, autonomous driving, and renewable energy.
Through collective action and a commitment to sustainability, TÜV SÜD and its partners are making strides towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
