POWERCHINA Drives Inclusive Growth with Local Empowerment Strategies
On December 2, 2025, the Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) announced its commitment to inclusive growth through localized strategies that emphasize empowerment, respect, and cultural collaboration. With infrastructure projects spanning six continents, the Company aims to create connections that encourage cultural exchange and shared development.
Fostering Cultural Integration and Community Engagement
POWERCHINA’s approach to inclusive growth centers on local employment and community involvement. By integrating cultural celebrations and environmental initiatives into its operations, the Company demonstrates its dedication to social responsibility. Local festivals, bilingual events, and cultural activities in locations such as Dubai and Brazil serve as platforms for bridging cultural gaps. Employees participate in celebrations like Ramadan and Chinese New Year, fostering mutual respect and collaboration between Chinese and local staff.
Maqbul, an engineer from Bangladesh, shared a personal experience highlighting the respect embedded in POWERCHINA’s culture. He recalled how his Chinese supervisor exhibited respect by standing during meetings until invited to sit, acknowledging Maqbul’s seniority. “You are at least 10 years senior,” the supervisor explained, an act that made Maqbul feel valued and proud to be part of the global team.
The Company’s investment in local talent extends to leadership roles, where local professionals are appointed to key positions. In Vietnam, local engineers actively participate in strategic planning, benefiting from partnerships with top universities to cultivate globally minded talent. Deputy General Director Ngo Thi Cam Tu noted that such inclusivity has enhanced communication, decision-making, and project execution.
Commitment to Local Laws and Employee Welfare
POWERCHINA’s respect for local governance is evident in its strict adherence to labor laws and environmental regulations. Jnana Ranjan Pradhan, a marine site engineer in Dubai, emphasized the Company’s compliance with necessary permits for marine dredging and its adjustments to work hours during Ramadan, which include providing prayer spaces for employees.
In Côte d’Ivoire, project employee Alex Freddy commended the transparent discussions around labor contracts, which reflect POWERCHINA’s respect for local laws. This commitment to trust and shared growth is visible in the teamwork that helps overcome challenges and supports employee well-being.
One notable example is the Hassyan Project in Dubai, where Pradhan achieved zero environmental violations while protecting local wetlands and sea turtles. He managed permits and coordinated monthly audits with the Dubai Municipality, showcasing POWERCHINA’s dedication to environmental stewardship.
Additionally, the Company’s efforts extend beyond corporate responsibility. In Lesotho, POWERCHINA collaborated with a Chinese medical team to provide free health services to employees and villagers in remote areas. Project employee Sechaba Masekhoane described his first acupuncture experience as a testament to the Company’s genuine care for its workforce and the surrounding community.
Through these initiatives, POWERCHINA illustrates how respect can foster relationships, cultural diversity can lead to collaboration, and overcoming challenges can result in shared success. The Company’s commitment to empowering local communities and promoting inclusive growth is a powerful model for international cooperation in the infrastructure sector.
