Gavi Undergoes Knee Surgery, Faces Up to Five Months Out
Barcelona’s midfielder Gavi will be sidelined for up to five months following knee surgery to address a meniscus injury. The club announced the news after the 21-year-old Spain international underwent an arthroscopy to repair his right knee. This injury comes after a challenging period for Gavi, who previously tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in November 2023.
According to the official statement from FC Barcelona, the procedure involved suturing the medial meniscus to preserve its function. The club estimates that Gavi‘s recovery time will span approximately four to five months.
This setback marks a crucial moment in the young player’s career, particularly as he had recently featured in Barcelona’s opening two matches of the current season. The timing of his injury is notable, considering the competitive nature of LaLiga, where FC Barcelona currently sits second, trailing Real Madrid by five points but with a game in hand.
As Barcelona prepares to face Real Oviedo on Thursday, the team must strategize without one of its key players. Gavi’s absence will undoubtedly impact their midfield dynamics and overall team performance as they aim to close the gap in the title race.
In the context of the ongoing season, FC Barcelona’s management will be keen to monitor Gavi’s rehabilitation process closely. The club is committed to ensuring that he returns to full fitness and remains a pivotal part of their future ambitions.
This latest injury adds to the challenges faced by the club as it navigates both domestic and international competitions. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Barcelona adapts in Gavi’s absence and whether they can maintain their momentum in the league.
