Beijing International Week for Science Literacy Highlights AI Communication

The 2025 Beijing International Week for Science Literacy concluded at the Beijing Science Center on September 20, 2025, after a dynamic five-day program that took place from September 16 to 20. The event, themed “Science Communication in the Age of AI,” focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance science outreach, promote global collaboration, boost public engagement, and tackle common societal challenges.
The opening ceremony featured prominent figures in the science community, including Li Xin, Executive Vice President of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST); Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia; Guo Zhe, Director of the China Science and Technology Museum; and Lazzat Kussainova, Chairperson and Chief Researcher of the Kazakhstan-based International Centre of Scientific Collaborations. During the ceremony, Su Guomin, Vice President of BAST and Secretary-General of the Beijing Global Network of Science Festivals, presented certificates to new members of the network.
The event brought together nearly two dozen representatives from science festival committees, science centers, and museums across 14 countries, including participants from Thailand, South Africa, and Norway. Over 200 participants from various regions of China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Anhui, also attended. The gathering included directors of science and technology museums as well as researchers and faculty from universities and research institutes.
Throughout the week, international experts shared valuable insights into immersive science education practices. A multinational exhibition zone showcased interactive displays that emphasized innovative approaches to public engagement. In addition, youth-oriented workshops, organized in collaboration with global institutions, offered hands-on activities aimed at inspiring the next generation of innovators.
The discussions and activities at the Beijing International Week for Science Literacy highlighted the transformative potential of AI in enhancing communication and education in the sciences. By bridging gaps in understanding and engagement, the event underscored the vital role that science plays in addressing contemporary global issues.
