Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Hosts Key Plenary Session
The Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) convened a significant plenary session, where key developments regarding the institution’s future were outlined. During the meeting, Isa Habibbayli, President of ANAS, highlighted the importance of a recent decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on November 5, 2025, aimed at recognizing individuals who have made substantial contributions to the advancement of science in Azerbaijan.
Habibbayli described this decree as a milestone in the 80-year history of ANAS. He noted that the President’s participation in the 80th anniversary meeting of the Academy, along with his comprehensive speech, serves as a strategic guide for ANAS’s future initiatives. The President emphasized crucial areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies, which are pivotal in addressing the challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In addition to these acknowledgments, Habibbayli reported that, following directives from President Aliyev regarding the preservation of the Azerbaijani language and the rewriting of the nation’s history, the Presidium swiftly organized meetings with linguists and historians. These discussions led to the formulation of proposals and the assignment of tasks to various scientific institutions within the Academy. Scholars have begun publishing articles in various media outlets, and an Action Plan for ANAS will be finalized in the coming days.
At the session, awards were presented to recipients recognized under the Presidential decree from November 5, 2025, for their significant contributions to Azerbaijani science. The awardees expressed profound gratitude to the Head of State for his recognition of their work and commitment to furthering the tasks outlined for them.
The Assembly also approved an Action Plan for implementing the Presidential Decree commemorating the Centenary of the First Turkological Congress. Additionally, it was decided to organize an international scientific conference titled “The Mathematical Harmony of Millennia: A Global Dialogue.” This event will celebrate the 1800th anniversary of the esteemed Chinese scholar Liu Hui.
This plenary session marks a crucial step in shaping the trajectory of scientific research and scholarship in Azerbaijan, aligning with both national interests and global scientific advancements. The Academy’s commitment to addressing contemporary challenges while honoring its historical legacy underscores its role as a leading institution in the region.
