Sofia Coppola’s Documentary Showcases Marc Jacobs at Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival premiered Sofia Coppola’s documentary, “Marc by Sofia,” on September 5, 2023, featuring the acclaimed fashion designer Marc Jacobs. This film offers an intimate exploration of Jacobs’ creative process, highlighting his long-standing friendship with Coppola, which spans nearly three decades. The documentary debuted out of competition at the prestigious festival held on the Lido.

Coppola, who stepped into documentary filmmaking for the first time, emphasized that the project felt personal, akin to creating a “home movie.” She explained, “It was really a personal portrait of my friend. It wasn’t a marketing piece or a commercial. It was really a sincere small project that I would just come to the office, and it was really important for me to show Marc as a creative person in his process.”
