Acclaimed Film ‘Kinaru’ Set for Release on November 14
The highly anticipated Tamil film, ‘Kinaru’, directed by Harikumaran, is set to be released on November 14, coinciding with Children’s Day. The film has achieved notable success, winning six international awards, which has heightened excitement among audiences and industry professionals alike.
Produced by Suriya Narayanan and Vinod Sekar, the film is presented by Madras Stories, a production company recognized for its commitment to showcasing emerging cinematic talent. The company has previously been celebrated for films such as ‘Burkha’ and ‘Lineman’.
A premiere screening took place recently in Chennai, attended by various prominent figures from the film industry, as well as thirty children who shared in the experience. Attendees expressed their admiration for the film, contributing to the growing buzz surrounding its release.
‘Kinaru’ has garnered accolades for Best Film, Cinematography, and Direction at esteemed festivals including the Pegasus Film Festival 2024, the Accolade Global Film Competition, and the IndieFEST Film Awards. Additionally, it has been officially selected for the World Cinema Competition at the Chennai International Film Festival 2024, further solidifying its status in the international film landscape.
In discussing the film, director Harikumaran highlighted its central themes: “‘Kinaru’ tells a story centered around childhood, friendship, faith, and family bonds. It follows four children from a village who are humiliated and forbidden from playing near a neighbour’s well. Determined to create a space of their own, they decide to dig their own well—a journey that faces many obstacles. This pursuit of their dream is told beautifully through the eyes of children. ‘Kinaru’ is not just for kids; it’s a heartwarming and humorous family film that everyone can enjoy.”
The film benefits from a talented technical team. The striking visuals are captured by cinematographer Gautham Venkatesh, whose work enriches the film’s narrative. The score, composed by Bhuvanesh Selvanesan, adds depth to the storytelling, while editing is handled by K.S. Gautham Raj. Sound mixing is managed by Daniel, with sound design contributions from Kishore Kamaraj.
As anticipation builds for its release, ‘Kinaru’ promises to be a delightful experience for audiences of all ages, encapsulating the spirit of childhood and the importance of resilience and friendship.
