Pallavi Joshi Unveils Intense Scene Logistics in ‘The Bengal Files’
Actress and producer Pallavi Joshi has shared insights into the complex logistics involved in a harrowing scene from her upcoming film, The Bengal Files. The film, which is set to release in theatres on September 5, 2025, dramatizes the aftermath of the violent riots that occurred during the Direct Action Day in undivided Bengal on August 16, 1946.
During a promotional interview at her residence, Joshi detailed the meticulous efforts taken to portray the devastating aftermath of the riots. The film’s production team utilized a combination of dummy bodies and prosthetic blood to depict the grim reality of the events. Joshi noted, “We have heard that there were hundreds of people, thousands of people who were killed, but to actually show them in those many numbers was so overwhelming.”
The shooting process proved to be emotionally taxing for the cast and crew. Joshi explained how a significant number of extras were transformed into lifeless bodies, requiring extensive makeup and the application of fake blood. She elaborated, “We were so consumed in the process, thinking, ‘This wound is not looking real enough.’ Once the shooting is done, when the day is done, and you come back home, those images haunt you.”
The Direct Action Day riots are recognized as one of the darkest chapters in Indian history, triggering widespread violence between Hindus and Muslims, resulting in a staggering loss of life. The film aims to reflect the human cost of these events, and Joshi expressed the profound impact that the production had on her. “It hits you, and you can’t sleep at night,” she added, emphasizing the emotional weight of portraying such tragic history.
Presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha, The Bengal Files is produced by Zee Studios, which is also responsible for its worldwide release. As anticipation builds for the film’s debut, the production team continues to address the sensitive nature of its subject matter while striving to deliver a powerful narrative that honors the victims of the riots.
This portrayal of real-life events not only showcases the intense dedication of the cast and crew but also speaks to the importance of remembering historical tragedies. The film promises to be a poignant reminder of the past, inviting audiences to reflect on the consequences of violence and division.
