Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav Aims to Continue Scoring Streak Against Bayern
VfB Stuttgart’s forward Deniz Undav is on an impressive scoring streak, having netted nine goals this season, with a significant number coming in recent weeks. As his team prepares to face leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday, Undav’s form is creating a buzz, especially as he seeks a place in the German national squad ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Undav’s Remarkable Comeback
The 29-year-old striker experienced a setback earlier in the season due to a knee ligament injury that sidelined him after the second matchday. Since his return, he has rejuvenated Stuttgart’s attack. In November alone, Undav scored six of the team’s eight Bundesliga goals, signaling that he is back to his optimal form.
After contributing to Stuttgart’s 2-0 victory over VfL Bochum in the German Cup round of 16, Undav humorously remarked, “I don’t know myself how many I have scored. I thought that it was eight goals. What I know is I have to keep going.” His determination reflects a keen awareness of the competitive landscape, especially as he eyes a place in the squad for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States in 2026.
Bayern’s Vulnerabilities and Upcoming Match
Bayern Munich is currently dominating the Bundesliga title race, sitting at the top with 34 points, eight ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig. However, recent performances have shown some defensive weaknesses. Bayern suffered a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League and narrowly managed a comeback victory over struggling St Pauli in their last Bundesliga match.
Following a tense encounter against Union Berlin, where they scraped a 3-2 victory in the German Cup, Bayern’s backline has come under scrutiny. Undav aims to exploit these vulnerabilities when Stuttgart takes on Bayern this weekend, stating, “I hope to take advantage of that weakness on Saturday.”
On the same matchday, RB Leipzig will host seventh-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, while Borussia Dortmund, currently in third place with 25 points, will face Hoffenheim on Sunday.
As the Bundesliga approaches a critical juncture, the match between Stuttgart and Bayern promises to be a captivating encounter, especially with Undav’s current form posing a significant threat to the league leaders.
