Taiwan’s economy is set to grow at an accelerated pace in 2025, largely driven by increased demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics announced on Friday that the gross domestic product (GDP) is now expected to expand by a remarkable 7.37 percent this year, a significant upgrade from the 4.45 percent forecast made in August.

This upward revision highlights Taiwan’s critical role in the global AI supply chain, particularly for major companies like Nvidia and Apple. Central to this growth is the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest manufacturer of chips used in AI applications. TSMC’s dominance in semiconductor production positions Taiwan as an essential player in the ongoing technology revolution.

Revised Economic Projections for 2026 and Q3 2023

Looking ahead, the statistics office has also adjusted its GDP growth forecast for 2026 to 3.54 percent, up from the earlier estimate of 2.81 percent. This positive outlook reflects confidence in Taiwan’s economic trajectory, buoyed by the robust performance of its tech sector.

Additionally, the agency reported a revision for the third quarter of 2023, with economic growth now projected at 8.21 percent. This figure surpasses the preliminary reading of 7.64 percent, indicating a stronger-than-expected performance in the latter half of the year.

The surge in AI demand, coupled with Taiwan’s technological prowess, suggests that the island’s economy is well-positioned to capitalize on global trends, driving further growth in the years to come.
