Omar Marmoush Ruled Out of Manchester Derby Due to Injury

Omar Marmoush will not participate in the upcoming Manchester derby after sustaining a knee injury while on international duty. The Egyptian forward was injured during a World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on Tuesday, where he was forced off the pitch just minutes into the match. According to a statement from Manchester City, the injury has been identified as a bruised knee ligament.
The club’s medical team conducted an initial scan in Egypt, which confirmed that Marmoush will be unavailable for the critical match against Manchester United this Sunday. He is expected to return to Manchester for further assessment and to begin his rehabilitation process.
Marmoush, who joined Manchester City in January 2023, had a promising first season, concluding the campaign with eight goals and four assists across all competitions. Despite his past contributions, he has yet to score this season, which adds to the challenges faced by City as they navigate an injury crisis.
City’s Injury Woes Deepen
The absence of Marmoush is a significant setback for manager Pep Guardiola and his squad, who currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League standings after three matches, managing only one victory. City is already contending with long-term injuries to other key players, including Rayan Cherki and Mateo Kovacic. Additionally, Phil Foden and Savinho are also listed as doubts for the derby.
As the team prepares for this crucial match, the pressure mounts on the remaining squad members to step up and deliver a strong performance. The clash against Manchester United is not only a key fixture in the calendar but also a vital opportunity for City to regain momentum in their season.
With Marmoush sidelined, fans will be eagerly watching to see how Guardiola reshuffles his line-up in response to this latest injury setback. The Manchester derby promises to be an intense encounter, and City will need to rally together to overcome their current challenges.
