Yunnan Province made a significant impact at the Greater Bay Area Conference 2025, held in Hong Kong on October 23. The event, co-organized by China Daily and the Hong Kong Coalition, focused on themes such as financial connectivity, talent nurturing, and cultural exchange. Yunnan’s distinct offerings, including local specialties like coffee, black tea, and traditional desserts, drew considerable attention from delegates and attendees.

The Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism showcased various products that highlight the region’s rich biodiversity and culinary heritage. Notably, Chen Jibin, the sales director for the South China region of Chen Sheng Hong, a renowned Yunnan tea brand, expressed strong interest in expanding their presence in Hong Kong. He emphasized the city’s deep-rooted tea culture and the potential it offers for business growth.

Wang Ruogu, founder of Terre • Petales, a Yunnan-based flower-fermented coffee brand, echoed these sentiments. He stated, “Hong Kong serves as a gateway to the world — we want Yunnan’s coffee aroma to spread globally.” This sentiment reflects the increasing connections between Hong Kong and Yunnan, as more residents from the city explore Yunnan’s tourism offerings and develop an appreciation for its culture.

Yunnan’s classic Arabica coffee, often referred to as the “Hometown of Chinese Coffee,” served as a medium for guests to delve into the province’s rich coffee culture. Alongside coffee and tea, attendees were introduced to Yunnan’s signature wild mushroom biscuits and sauces, which captivated visitors with their authentic flavors and innovative presentation.

Celebrating Cultural Heritage

The Yunnan booth not only featured culinary delights but also offered tourism brochures under the theme, “Yunnan: A Many-Splendored Life.” This theme encapsulated the province’s cultural and natural charm, inviting guests to explore its diverse offerings. During the conference, the Yunnan Gengma National Song and Dance Troupe performed an intangible cultural heritage dance, a medley of the Yunnan Water-Splashing Dance, which left a profound impression on the high-profile delegates. This dance, traditionally performed by the Dai people during festivals, represents a vital aspect of Yunnan’s cultural heritage.

Yunnan’s presence at the Greater Bay Area Conference 2025 transformed perceptions of the province. It is no longer merely viewed as a geographical location but rather as a burgeoning travel destination that inspires and captivates. The showcased products and performances illustrate Yunnan’s potential as a bridge for global dialogue, reinforcing its ecological strengths and cultural legacy.

By promoting its unique offerings, Yunnan is not only enhancing its brand on a global scale but also contributing to the upgrading of its local industries. The concept of “Yunnan: A Many-Splendored Life” has become a tangible and inspiring narrative, inviting the world to discover the province’s multifaceted identity.
