Cebu Pacific Secures Prestigious Sustainability Aviation Award

Cebu Pacific, a leading low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia, has achieved international recognition by winning the Sustainability Aviation Lease Deal of the Year at the 2025 Airline Economics Sustainability Deals Awards held in London. This accolade highlights the airline’s innovative financing structure, specifically a sustainability-linked Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option (JOLCO), which was instrumental in financing the delivery of a new Airbus A321neo in December 2024.
The Airline Economics Sustainability Awards commend contributions from companies and individuals in finance and leasing that significantly advance the decarbonization of the aviation sector. The ceremony took place at the Natural History Museum in Cromwell Road, where Cebu Pacific‘s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Szucs, accepted the award on behalf of the airline.
Commitment to Sustainability
Cebu Pacific stands out as the only low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia to secure this financing type, typically available to a limited number of major global airlines. This achievement is a testament to the airline’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its growth strategy. Mark Cezar, Chief Financial Officer of Cebu Pacific, stated, “Sustainability is integral to how we grow as an airline. By linking our financing to sustainability goals, we show that strategy and responsibility can work together.”
Under the terms of the JOLCO agreement, Cebu Pacific has committed to measurable targets aimed at reducing the carbon emission intensity of its fleet. Achieving these objectives will enable the airline to benefit from financial incentives, reinforcing its dedication to environmentally friendly operations.
The Airbus A321neo, acquired through this innovative financing, is part of Cebu Pacific’s long-term vision to transition to an all-NEO fleet. This move is pivotal in the airline’s strategy to decarbonize its operations. NEO aircraft are known for being 20% more fuel-efficient than older aircraft models, which significantly lowers carbon emissions per flight.
Cebu Pacific continues to make strides in sustainability while enhancing the travel experience for its customers. The airline’s proactive approach to environmental responsibility sets a benchmark in the aviation industry, illustrating how commitment to sustainability can coexist with business growth.
