Bihar Commemorates Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Birth Anniversary

The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee was observed with reverence on December 25, 2023, across India, particularly in Bihar. A significant state-level function took place at Patliputra Park in Patna, where leaders and citizens gathered to honour Vajpayee’s legacy.

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, paid homage by garlanding Vajpayee’s statue, reflecting the deep respect many have for the late leader. The event attracted several prominent figures, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with various ministers, legislators, and representatives from social organizations.

In addition to political leaders, dignitaries such as Sanjay Saraogi, President of the BJP’s Bihar unit and MLA, and other notable figures participated in offering floral tributes. The gathering underscored Vajpayee’s enduring influence, with attendees expressing their commitment to his ideals of governance and unity.

Cultural elements enhanced the observance, as artists from the Information and Public Relations Department performed traditional Aarti-Pujan, rendered the Bihar State Anthem, and presented patriotic songs, contributing to the day’s emotional atmosphere.

The BJP also marked the occasion at its state party office, with Sanjay Saraogi and both Deputy Chief Ministers participating in the homage. During the event, Choudhary emphasized the lasting impact of Vajpayee’s thoughts, stating, “His guidance continues to inspire us even today. We are following the path he showed us and will uphold his ideals.”

Sanjay Saraogi highlighted Vajpayee’s special connection to Bihar, recalling, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee had deep affection for Bihar and contributed immensely to the state. He often used to say, ‘The people of Bihar are Biharis, and I am Atal Bihari Vajpayee.’”

The ceremonies across Bihar reflected a collective respect for the former Prime Minister and reaffirmed a commitment to the principles of good governance, democracy, and national unity that defined Vajpayee’s political career.
