Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council Expands Influence at ASTINDO 2025
The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has intensified its regional outreach by participating in the ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025, a prominent tourism exhibition held in Medan, Indonesia, on November 3, 2025. This event is recognized as one of Indonesia’s largest tourism showcases, uniting travel agents, airlines, hotels, medical institutions, and tourism partners to display their offerings and promote cross-border collaboration.
Representing the Malaysia Healthcare Pavilion, MHTC leads a delegation of nine esteemed Malaysian hospitals. This initiative underscores Malaysia’s status as a trusted global destination for quality medical care and wellness services. The participating hospitals include two finalists from MHTC’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital (FMTH) programme: Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) and Mahkota Medical Centre. Other notable institutions involved are Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), Gleneagles Hospital Penang, LohGuanLye Specialists Centre, Northern Heart Hospital Penang, Penang Adventist Hospital, Sunway Medical Centre, and Sunway Medical Centre Penang.
Strengthening Healthcare Collaborations
According to Suriaghandi Suppiah, Chief Executive Officer of MHTC, the council’s presence at the ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025 “reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening healthcare partnerships in Indonesia, particularly across Sumatra, which remains one of our key markets for health travellers.” The Malaysia Healthcare Pavilion aims to highlight the nation’s excellence in medical expertise, advanced technology, and renowned hospitality, further establishing Malaysia as a preferred choice for Indonesian healthcare travellers.
This participation aligns with the upcoming Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 campaign, themed “Healing Meets Hospitality.” This initiative is designed to showcase Malaysia’s world-class healthcare ecosystem, which integrates internationally accredited medical services with the country’s unique culture of care and hospitality.
MHTC’s engagement at the fair complements Tourism Malaysia‘s involvement in promoting the forthcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, themed “Malaysia a Sustainable Destination & Rich in Culture.” Together, these organisations aim to present Malaysia not only as a leisure destination but also as a comprehensive hub for healthcare, wellness, education, and lifestyle tourism.
Expanding Tourism Offerings
Tourism Malaysia Medan, led by Consul Rosalina Abdul Rahim, is collaborating with travel partners to introduce new holiday packages to attractions such as Ipoh, Cameron Highlands, and Melaka. Packages are also being developed for Umrah stopovers in Kuala Lumpur and Halal tourism in partnership with Almeerah Plaza Tour.
Malaysia has long been recognized as a leading destination for medical tourism in Asia, attracting patients from neighbouring countries seeking specialized care in areas such as cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, fertility, and wellness treatments. The ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025 serves as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration between Malaysia and Indonesia in both the tourism and healthcare sectors. The participation of MHTC and its hospital partners exemplifies the synergy of medical excellence and hospitality that defines Malaysia’s healthcare travel experience.
