Smriti Irani Celebrates Iconic ‘Kyunki Saas…’ Cast in Throwback Post
Actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani recently shared a nostalgic throwback photo featuring the prominent cast of the beloved television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The image, which dates back 13 years, includes actresses Ritu Chaudhary Seth, Komolika Guhathakurta, Apara Mehta, Tasneem Sheikh Nerurkar, and Tuhina Vohra. Irani referred to her former co-stars as “Madcaps” in her social media post, highlighting the fond memories associated with the show.
The original series, which first aired in June 2000, became a cultural phenomenon and is known for its dramatic storytelling and memorable characters. It ran for an impressive eight years, concluding in November 2008, making it one of the longest-running series in Indian television history. The show centered around the lives of the Virani family, particularly the iconic on-screen couple Mihir and Tulsi, portrayed by Amar Upadhyay and Smriti Irani respectively.
Return of a Classic
Following a 25-year hiatus, a new season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi premiered in August 2025, with Smriti Irani reprising her role as Tulsi. This revival has reignited interest in the series, drawing back both old fans and new viewers. Irani’s return alongside Upadhyay as Mihir has been met with enthusiasm, particularly given their status as one of Indian television’s most cherished couples.
Despite the nostalgia, the new season has also seen changes in the cast. While Apara Mehta, who played Mihir’s mother, Savita Virani, in the original, is not returning, several original cast members are back. The current lineup includes Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, Shakti Anand, Ritu Seth, and Komolika Guhathakurta, who have all reprised their roles. Additionally, a fresh ensemble of actors such as Rohit Suchanti, Shagun Sharma, and Aman Gandhi has been introduced, aiming to appeal to a modern audience while retaining the essence of the original.
Strong Ratings Signal Popularity
The revival has garnered significant attention, achieving a Television Rating Point (TRP) of 2.3 in its first week, according to data from the Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC). This impressive rating positions the new season as a strong contender in the competitive landscape of Hindi general entertainment channels, even surpassing the long-standing favorite, Anupama.
Fans of the original series have expressed excitement over the return of familiar faces and the continuation of beloved storylines. The iconic nature of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has cemented its place in Indian television history, and the revival is poised to attract both viewers who grew up with the show and a new generation curious about its legacy.
As the new season unfolds, it remains to be seen how the characters and plots will evolve, but the excitement surrounding this iconic series is palpable, reflecting the enduring impact it has had on audiences over the years.
