Lady Gaga to Premiere Harlequin Live Concert Film on YouTube
Pop icon Lady Gaga is set to unveil her concert film, Lady Gaga in Harlequin Live – One Night Only, on December 24, 2024. The highly anticipated premiere will take place on her YouTube channel at 16:00 PT and midnight GMT, which translates to 08:00 on December 25 in Singapore. This concert film follows her recent work on the Harlequin soundtrack album, nominated for Best Traditional Pop Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
The concert, held at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles on September 30, 2024, featured a limited audience of devoted fans, affectionately known as “Little Monsters.” Gaga expressed that releasing the film during the Christmas season felt fitting, as it represents a time for something “rebellious.” In a conversation with the Grammy Museum, she stated, “I’m feeling like: Why not? We have this thing that’s so special to us, so we’re just really happy to share it with the fans. It’s kind of a rebellious project. And, by Harlequin standards, Christmas is the perfect time to release something rebellious.”
Gaga explained that the decision to delay the release was deliberate. Initially, the team felt it wasn’t the right moment for the concert film to be shared. “When we first saw the footage, we said, ‘This is not the right time to put this out.’ We collectively agreed that we would allow the lore of the Belasco performance to bloom with the fans until it felt like time… And so this is like a Christmas present,” she added.
The performance includes a mix of rock covers and original songs. Fans can look forward to hearing covers of classics such as That’s Entertainment, If My Friends Could See Me Now, and When the Saints Go Marching In, along with the original track Happy Mistake. Gaga was accompanied by a six-piece band, creating an electrifying atmosphere for the limited audience.
In addition to the concert film, Gaga is actively working on new music while touring for her Mayhem Ball Tour. During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she mentioned, “I’ve been making a lot of music, and it’s kind of the best making music when you get to see your fans every night because you’re energetically just right where you need to be.”
Recently, speculation arose about a potential collaboration between Gaga and fellow artist The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. This speculation was fueled by The Weeknd posting an old photograph of Gaga from her The Fame era on his Instagram Story. When asked about the post, Gaga responded, “I love Abel! It’s all I can say.” Reflecting on the 2008 photoshoot, she recalled, “In that photo, I look so immersed, completely in that moment. I remembered how I artistically directed every photo and every moment that I wanted my fans to see.” The image featured Gaga in front of a black Lexus, with the number plate LADYGAGA, leaving fans intrigued about any future collaboration.
While there were rumors last year regarding a duet with The Weeknd for her album Mayhem, no such collaboration materialized when the album was released in March 2024. As the concert film approaches its release, fans eagerly await to experience the unique energy and artistry that only Lady Gaga can deliver.
