Azerbaijan to Launch New Innovation Hubs in Universities by Year-End
Several innovation centers are set to be established in higher education institutions across Azerbaijan by the end of this year, according to Farid Osmanov, Chairman of the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA). Osmanov made this announcement during the “Demo-Day” event of the “Green and Digital Silk Road” international acceleration program, part of the “Startup School 3” initiative organized by the Enterprise Azerbaijan portal.
Osmanov emphasized that the IDDA focuses on advancing digitalization and innovation within the country. He noted that the primary objectives of these initiatives are to enhance the well-being of civil society, improve the efficiency of business processes, and ensure the accessibility of public services. He remarked, “With rapid technological development, the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions and digital tools is no longer a choice but a necessity.”
Innovation Spaces Across Azerbaijan
The establishment of innovation spaces at universities in Baku, Sumgayit, and other educational institutions is already underway. These spaces are designed to facilitate collaboration between government agencies, academic institutions, startups, and business entities. Osmanov stated, “By the end of the year, additional innovation centers are planned in other universities. Our goal is to foster a culture of innovation and create the environment needed for ecosystem development.”
The initiative aims to strengthen innovative thinking within society and actively engage youth and startups in the digital transformation process. Osmanov believes that collaboration with universities and the creation of joint platforms will significantly contribute to achieving these goals. He stated, “Executing joint projects and supporting new initiatives are key parts of this work.”
Supporting Startups and Venture Funds
As part of its strategy, the IDDA has established three venture funds and provided support to over 30 startups. Osmanov highlighted the importance of building connections and communication channels to ensure access to both domestic and international markets. He remarked, “Building this connection, as well as ensuring access to both domestic and international markets, is extremely important.”
The establishment of these innovation hubs is expected to play a critical role in accelerating Azerbaijan’s digital development and fostering a vibrant ecosystem for startups. As the country continues to embrace technological advancements, these initiatives will help create a framework that supports innovation and economic growth.
