Turkey Celebrates 42 Years of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Turkey commemorated the **42nd anniversary** of the establishment of the **Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)** on October 15, 2023. This milestone highlights the historical struggles faced by the **Turkish Cypriot community** since its founding in 1983. The Turkish Foreign Ministry marked the occasion with a statement on the social media platform **NSosyal**, reinforcing its commitment to the Turkish Cypriots and their sovereignty.
In its message, the ministry described the TRNC as “the most valuable manifestation of the sovereignty and existence struggle that Turkish Cypriots have waged since 1963.” It emphasized that the establishment of the TRNC stands as a crucial symbol of Turkey’s national cause. The ministry stated, “We celebrate the 42nd anniversary of its founding,” underlining the importance of this date for the Turkish Cypriot people.
Turkey reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot population. The Foreign Ministry declared, “Motherland and guarantor Turkey will always continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriot people.” It also vowed to maintain its constructive and determined efforts toward achieving a just, lasting, and sustainable resolution to the Cyprus issue, reflecting the realities faced on the island.
Tributes to Historical Figures and Sacrifices
On this significant day, the ministry paid tribute to key figures in the Turkish Cypriot struggle for sovereignty, including the late **Fazil Kucuk** and founding president **Rauf Raif Denktas**. These leaders played instrumental roles in the community’s pursuit of independence and recognition. The ministry’s statement included acknowledgments of the sacrifices made by soldiers and fighters who lost their lives in this ongoing struggle, as well as recognition of veterans who contributed significantly to advancing their cause.
