Arteta Celebrates Arsenal’s Focus Ahead of Key Atletico Clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed satisfaction with his team’s commitment as they navigate a challenging season, competing for trophies on multiple fronts. The club remains unbeaten since August, holding a three-point lead at the top of the Premier League and having secured victories in both of their Champions League matches thus far. Despite this success, Arteta urged caution and refrained from embracing the “favourites” label in the league.
“The only thing I embrace is when I see the team, the energy, the temperature, the commitment, and the quality that they can deliver,” Arteta told reporters on October 2, 2023, ahead of their match against Atletico Madrid. “That gives me the conviction that we can go all the way. But that’s just a feeling; then the next day you have to prove it, and you can’t be busy thinking about those topics.”
Arteta emphasized that every match in the Premier League is crucial, reinforcing the importance of maintaining focus and not becoming complacent.
The manager also highlighted the proactive approach of his players, particularly noting a video that showed defender William Saliba analyzing Atletico’s play on the coach after Arsenal’s recent 1-0 victory against Fulham. “I love that initiative from the players,” he remarked. “We know this will be a tough one, so the earlier we think about it the better.”
Respect for Simeone’s Achievements
Arteta took time to commend Atletico Madrid’s manager, Diego Simeone, who has been at the helm since 2011. Under Simeone’s leadership, Atletico has claimed two LaLiga titles and two Europa League championships.
“What he has done since he got to Atletico has been outstanding,” Arteta stated. “Not only what he has achieved but the way he has done it. The identity he has created is simple and clear to identify because the manager is very much them.”
Arteta acknowledged the difficulty of sustaining such success and noted Simeone’s passion and ability to inspire players. “He has been there 14 years, and what he’s done is incredible. His capacity to transmit a willingness to win and to keep convincing players in this environment is extraordinary.”
In further team news, Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie will be available for selection following his recovery from a groin injury. This adds depth to the squad as they prepare for a crucial match against Atletico.
As Arsenal aims to continue their strong form, Arteta’s focus remains on the immediate challenges ahead, reinforcing the need for determination and resilience as the season progresses.
