Messi Returns to Argentina Squad for Friendly Against Puerto Rico
Lionel Messi is set to rejoin the Argentina national team for their upcoming friendly match against Puerto Rico. Coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed this development after Messi missed Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Venezuela to play for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. The match is scheduled for March 26, 2024, at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Messi made an impressive contribution during his last match with Inter Miami, scoring two goals in a decisive 4-0 win against Atlanta United. Scaloni expressed optimism about Messi’s fitness for the upcoming match, stating, “I saw Messi play on Saturday. From what I know, he finished well. I haven’t spoken to him yet.” The coach plans to evaluate Messi’s condition during the team’s final training session before the game.
The friendly against Puerto Rico was originally slated to take place in Chicago but was relocated to Florida due to security and logistical concerns. This change allows Messi to play in front of a home crowd, enhancing the experience for both the player and fans.
Scaloni emphasized the importance of communication with Messi, indicating that he will have a conversation with the player regarding his readiness for the match. “As we always do before preparing for the final training, I’ll talk to him and if he’s in condition, he’ll play tomorrow,” he added.
The match holds significance for the Argentina squad as they prepare for future competitions, including the Copa America. Messi’s presence would undoubtedly boost the team’s morale, as he remains one of the sport’s most celebrated figures. Fans and teammates alike are eager to see if the iconic forward can add to his impressive tally of international goals.
With Messi’s return, the friendly against Puerto Rico promises to be an exciting event for supporters of both teams. The atmosphere at Chase Stadium is expected to be electric, especially given the anticipation surrounding Messi’s potential participation.
