Pogacar Claims Fifth Consecutive Lombardia Victory, Sets Record

Tadej Pogacar showcased his exceptional cycling prowess by winning the Giro di Lombardia for a record fifth consecutive year on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in his career. This victory not only represents Pogacar’s tenth career Monuments win but also his third in the current season.
The Slovenian cyclist, who rides for UAE Team Emirates, has had an outstanding year, having previously claimed victories at the Tour of Flanders and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. With this achievement, he joins the ranks of cycling legend Eddy Merckx as the only rider to secure three Monuments in a single year.
Pogacar’s performance in the 241-kilometer race was reminiscent of his previous triumph, as he executed a decisive solo attack that left his competitors far behind. He crossed the finish line a remarkable one minute and 48 seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel, solidifying his dominance in the sport.
Tadej Pogacar’s Record-Breaking Achievement
This latest win elevates Pogacar to five Lombardia titles, tying him with Italian cyclist Fausto Coppi, who achieved this feat from 1946 to 1949 and again in 1954. Notably, Pogacar also became the first cyclist to win a Monument for five consecutive years.
Reflecting on his success, Pogacar expressed gratitude towards his team, stating, “To win Il Lombardia five times in a row, every time I start, it feels like this race really suits me. But at the same time, I have such a good team around me that we could pull it and I owe a big thanks to all my teammates.” He highlighted the contributions of team members such as Domen Novak and Pavel Sivakov, praising their efforts in the final climb.
Pogacar’s year has been remarkable, as he also secured second place in the Paris-Roubaix and third in Milano-Sanremo. This accomplishment makes him the first rider to finish on the podium in all five Monuments this season.
A Season to Remember
In addition to his Monument successes, Pogacar retained the rainbow jersey at the cycling world championships held in Kigali, Rwanda, last month. During the Giro di Lombardia, his decisive attack on the final Passo di Ganda climb left Evenepoel and the rest of the field trailing behind.
Australian cyclist Michael Storer from Tudor Pro Cycling Team finished third, over three minutes adrift of Pogacar. As he crossed the finish line, Pogacar celebrated with his arms outstretched, absorbing the applause from the enthusiastic crowd.
“Seven years in a row I’ve said this is my best season so far. And I can say this is my best season so far,” Pogacar remarked with a smile. Looking ahead, he mentioned his ambitions for Milano-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix, but emphasized the importance of taking time to relax before planning for the next year.
Pogacar’s legacy as one of the greatest cyclists continues to grow, and his remarkable achievements in 2025 have set the stage for future successes.
