Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsi Balances Football with Family Life
Barcelona’s teenage defender Pau Cubarsi is making headlines not just for his performances on the field but also for his humble lifestyle off it. The 18-year-old, who plays a crucial role in FC Barcelona‘s recent success in both LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, recently shared details of his grounded life in an interview with the Spanish sports daily AS.
Cubarsi lives with his older sister Irene Cubarsi in a modest apartment in Barcelona, where they take on household responsibilities together. “I’m just a regular guy,” he stated as he prepared for Spain’s World Cup qualifier against Georgia on March 24, 2024. He emphasized the significance of his family in maintaining his humility, saying, “My family keeps me grounded, especially my parents and my sister.”
Balancing Academics and Athletics
In addition to his football commitments, Cubarsi is dedicated to his education. Currently enrolled in a Business Administration and Management course, he allocates three afternoons each week to his studies. “Football doesn’t leave much time, but I want to prepare myself. This course is more relaxed than university, which requires more time. That way, I can recover and study,” he explained.
Having developed his skills at La Masia, Barcelona’s prestigious youth academy, Cubarsi moved in with Irene after making the transition to the first team. Their parents, who live in their hometown of Estanyol in Girona, frequently visit, helping to keep family ties strong. “I’m learning to cook a few things, and if there are any dishes to wash, I wash them,” he remarked, illustrating his commitment to a balanced life beyond football.
Aiming for World Cup Glory
Despite his down-to-earth nature, Cubarsi harbors ambitious goals on the pitch. With the possibility of participating in his first World Cup in 2026, he expressed his eagerness to compete. “I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m also excited about winning it. A World Cup is spectacular, and just being able to compete would be magnificent,” he shared.
As he prepares for the upcoming qualifier, Cubarsi’s dedication to both family and football sets a compelling example for young athletes. His story serves as a reminder that success in sports can coexist with a grounded lifestyle, highlighting the importance of family and education in the life of an emerging talent.
