Utilizing techniques like the speaker-listener method can facilitate clearer communication. In this structure, one partner speaks while the other reflects back what they heard, ensuring both parties feel understood. Staying on topic and avoiding past grievances is essential for a productive discussion.

After addressing the issues, couples should engage in activities that reinforce their bond. Antonio Quirindongo Jr., a psychotherapist, suggests asking partners what they can do to “cleanse the palate” after a dispute. This could involve shared activities such as going for a walk, enjoying a meal together, or simply cuddling. These moments help to restore intimacy and reaffirm commitment to one another.
