Mbeumo Returns as Manchester United Faces Brentford; Liverpool Visits Palace

Bryan Mbeumo makes his highly anticipated return to Brentford on Saturday as he leads the charge for Manchester United in their Premier League match at the Community Stadium. Mbeumo, who left Brentford after six successful years, joined United for a reported fee of £65 million (approximately $87.4 million) in July. While fans may have mixed emotions about his return, Mbeumo’s departure was marked by gratitude, and he expressed his affection for the club in a farewell video.
During his time at Brentford, Mbeumo scored 70 goals in 242 appearances. His relationship with the club and its supporters was characterized by mutual respect, particularly as he left on good terms, unlike his former teammate Yoane Wissa. Wissa’s exit was marked by tension, but Mbeumo’s farewell came with heartfelt thanks: “It’s time to take off. Thank you Brentford for everything, forever. I will always love you and miss you all,” he stated.
This match carries significant implications for both teams. Brentford currently sits just above the relegation zone in 17th place, while Manchester United stands in 11th after a shaky start to the season. United secured a 2-1 victory against Chelsea last weekend, marking only their second win of the season. However, they have yet to achieve back-to-back league wins since May of the previous year and have not secured an away victory this campaign.
Brentford’s form against United has been relatively strong, with two wins in their last three home encounters. The Bees are now under new management, with Keith Andrews taking over following Thomas Frank‘s departure to Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool Aims to Preserve Unbeaten Streak Against Crystal Palace
At the top of the Premier League table, leaders Liverpool will look to maintain their perfect record as they visit Crystal Palace, the only other unbeaten team in the league. This match presents a challenging test for Liverpool, who will be without forward Hugo Ekitike due to suspension. In his absence, record signing Alexander Isak may make his league debut after finding the net in the League Cup earlier this week.
The two teams last faced each other in the Community Shield in August, where Palace triumphed in a penalty shootout. They will meet again in the League Cup fourth round, scheduled to be drawn on Wednesday. Liverpool’s current unbeaten streak will be on the line during this crucial encounter.
In other matches, Tottenham Hotspur will host bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers in the late kickoff on Saturday. Manchester City welcomes Burnley, while Chelsea takes on Brighton & Hove Albion. Chelsea will be without goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who is suspended, adding an extra layer of intrigue to their match against a team that features several former players.
On Sunday, Arsenal will travel to face Newcastle United in the late game, while Everton hosts West Ham United on Monday. Newcastle has been particularly strong at home against Arsenal, winning their last three encounters without conceding a goal, although they have struggled recently with only three wins in their last five league matches.
As the Premier League action unfolds, fans can expect an exciting weekend filled with competitive matches and significant implications for teams fighting for points early in the season.
