PostNL Launches 2028 Strategy, Restructures Parcels Division

PostNL has announced a significant restructuring of its operations as part of its new strategy revealed during the Capital Markets Day on Wednesday. Starting January 1, 2026, the company will divide its current Parcels segment into two distinct categories: E-commerce and Platforms. This initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and support sustainable growth.
The Dutch postal operator plans to invest approximately €150 million (around $177.86 million) annually from 2026 onward. This investment will focus on boosting its technology and data capabilities, expanding its out-of-home network, and improving the management of its parcels segment, ultimately promoting international growth.
Linde Jansen, Chief Financial Officer of PostNL, emphasized the importance of this strategy, stating, “By investing in smart automation, digital capabilities, and network optimization at E-commerce and Platforms, we are building a resilient foundation for long-term value creation.” The company aims to achieve revenue exceeding €4 billion and a normalized earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of more than €175 million (approximately $207.52 million) by 2028.
The decision to restructure comes as PostNL seeks to adapt to the evolving logistics landscape, particularly in the context of growing e-commerce demands. By creating specialized divisions, the company expects to enhance its focus on the distinct needs of online retailers and platform providers.
Jansen further commented on the company’s strategic focus: “We are concentrated on disciplined execution, margin improvement, and capital efficiency.” This approach is intended to lay a solid groundwork for PostNL’s future initiatives while ensuring it remains competitive in an increasingly crowded market.
As these changes take effect, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the new structure impacts PostNL’s performance and its ability to navigate the challenges of the logistics industry. The restructuring marks an essential step in PostNL’s ongoing efforts to innovate and maintain its position as a leader in postal services within the Netherlands and beyond.
