Super Mario Galaxy Movie Set for April 2026 Release
The highly anticipated sequel, titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is scheduled for theatrical release on April 3, 2026. This new installment will see Chris Pratt reprise his role as Mario, along with a returning cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously directed the first film, the sequel is being produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. The creative team has already begun storyboarding scenes, indicating that production is well underway.
Black, who voiced Bowser in the first film, hinted at potential changes in the franchise’s villain lineup. He suggested that the storyline might introduce a new antagonist, saying, “It’s not a given that Bowser will return. There may be a more powerful, more evil villain.” He even playfully mentioned Pedro Pascal as a possible fit for the role of Wario, showcasing the fun spirit surrounding the film’s development.
The first installment of the franchise achieved remarkable success, surpassing Frozen II to become the animated film with the largest opening weekend. It also set records for video game adaptations, outperforming titles like Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania upon its release.
As fans eagerly await more details, the addition of new voice actors is expected, further expanding the beloved universe of Mario. The excitement surrounding The Super Mario Galaxy Movie reflects the enduring popularity of the franchise and its ability to engage audiences across generations.
