SingPost Launches New U.S. Shipping Service for Retail Customers
Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) has announced the launch of its new shipping service, Speedpost Direct International (Retail), set to begin on September 15, 2025. This service aims to provide retail customers with a compliant shipping solution in response to the recent changes in U.S. import regulations, specifically the removal of de minimis exemptions for shipments.
The introduction of Speedpost Direct International (Retail) builds on an earlier corporate-only launch, ensuring that walk-in customers at SingPost’s post offices can now access a compliant shipping channel under the new U.S. customs rules. This initiative is particularly significant as it addresses the need for transparency and efficiency in international shipping for retail customers.
Service Details and Customer Benefits
Under this new service, retail customers can send parcels to the U.S. with a flat shipping rate for packages weighing up to 2 kg. SingPost offers two standard packaging options—an envelope or a box—both provided at a consistent rate. Customers who opt to use their own packaging will have their items repacked into the standard options to ensure compliance with U.S. regulations.
Neo Su Yin, Group Chief Operating Officer of SingPost, emphasized the core benefit of this service, stating, “The core benefit of this service is its transparency for retail customers. Our post office staff will assist customers in calculating and collecting all necessary duties and taxes upfront, eliminating the surprise of unexpected fees for the recipient. This provides a hassle-free experience from start to finish.”
SingPost’s packaging options cover over 80 percent of the typical sizes of shipments to the U.S. For customers with more varied shipping needs, the company recommends establishing a corporate account that provides access to dedicated account managers for assistance with various shipment sizes using the Speedpost Direct International service.
For packages exceeding 2 kg or valued over US$100, customers may utilize the premium Speedpost Express International service, which offers express delivery to the U.S. within 3-6 days. In comparison, the standard Speedpost Direct International service delivers packages within 8 days.
Background on U.S. Regulatory Changes
This launch follows significant changes to U.S. customs policy announced on August 29, 2025, which suspended the de minimis exemption. Previously, shipments valued under US$800 could enter the U.S. without incurring duties or taxes. The removal of this exemption subjects all commercial items to new duties, taxes, and increased scrutiny, a challenge that traditional postal systems are not equipped to manage.
In light of these regulatory changes, SingPost proactively decided to suspend standard postal services for commercial items destined for the U.S. The new suite of Speedpost Direct International services aims to provide customers with a reliable and compliant alternative as postal networks adapt to the revised requirements.
Founded in 1858, Singapore Post Limited is a leading postal and eCommerce logistics provider in the Asia-Pacific region. The company operates a diverse portfolio that includes national and international postal services, warehousing, fulfillment, and last-mile delivery.
