Mondo Duplantis Shatters Pole Vault Record at 6.29 Metres
Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis has once again set a new pole vault world record, clearing a remarkable 6.29 metres at the Hungarian Grand Prix meeting in Budapest on March 5, 2024. This achievement marks the 13th time Duplantis has broken the world record, further solidifying his dominance in the sport.
Competing at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial, Duplantis improved upon his previous record by one centimetre. His latest record-breaking attempt came after an earlier struggle, as he missed his first attempt at 6.11 metres. Following the withdrawal of Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, who failed to clear the same height, Duplantis raised the bar to make his world record attempt.
The 25-year-old two-time world champion faced challenges during the attempt, initially failing on his first try. His second attempt rattled the bar, leaving him momentarily stunned as he realized he had surpassed his own world record once again. This latest achievement took place in the same stadium where he secured his second world title in 2023, showcasing his remarkable consistency.
Upon clearing the height, Duplantis celebrated with his partner, Desire Inglander, and family, underscoring the emotional significance of the moment. Since first breaking the pole vault record in 2020 in Poland, Duplantis has elevated the sport to unprecedented levels.
Looking ahead, he is scheduled to compete at the Silesia Diamond League on March 9, 2024, where he previously set another world record. As Duplantis continues to push the boundaries of the sport, his future performances are highly anticipated by fans and competitors alike.
