Man in Uttar Pradesh Allegedly Kills Son After Domestic Dispute
A man in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, has been accused of poisoning his two-year-old son and subsequently throwing him off a roof. The tragic incident unfolded on March 14, 2024, in Chitaua village, located within the jurisdiction of the Bichhwan police station. The accused, identified as Raj Bahadur, reportedly committed the act following a heated argument with his wife.
According to local news outlet Amar Ujala, the dispute arose when Raj Bahadur questioned his wife’s character and expressed doubts about the child’s paternity. Following the confrontation, his wife left the house to wash clothes outside. This left Raj Bahadur alone with their son, Lalit, who was playing on the roof at that time.
Reports indicate that Raj Bahadur coerced Lalit into ingesting pesticide before throwing him from the roof. The child sustained fatal injuries, including a broken neck, and died immediately upon impact with the ground.
After the incident, Raj Bahadur reportedly threatened self-harm while sitting on the roof with a knife. Villagers attempted to negotiate his descent, offering him tobacco worth ₹50 in an effort to coax him down. Their strategy proved effective when police, who had arrived at the scene, pretended to withdraw and assured Raj that he would not face arrest.
This prompted Raj Bahadur to open the gate and come down from the roof, where police apprehended him with the assistance of the villagers. The incident has drawn significant attention, highlighting issues of domestic violence and mental health.
As investigations continue, local authorities are expected to pursue charges against Raj Bahadur. Community members have expressed shock and grief over the loss of such a young life, reflecting on the urgent need for support systems to address domestic disputes and mental health crises.
