Man Arrested for Theft at Orchard Rendezvous Hotel in Singapore

A 38-year-old man, Indra Fitry, has been charged with housebreaking and theft after allegedly stealing a smartphone and a wallet from a hotel room at the Orchard Rendezvous Hotel in Singapore. The incident reportedly occurred around 3:12 AM on August 21, 2023.
According to the charge sheet, Fitry is accused of entering the hotel room through a sliding window to commit the theft. The stolen items included an iPhone 16 and a wallet containing 500,000 rupiah (approximately S$39.56), an automated teller machine (ATM) card, an Indonesian driving licence, and an identity card.
Police received two reports of suspected housebreaking and theft at the Orchard Rendezvous Hotel between August 22 and August 24. On August 22, a victim reported that their smartphone was missing from their hotel room. Two days later, another victim reported the theft of both their smartphone and wallet.
Through investigative efforts that included ground enquiries and the analysis of CCTV footage, authorities were able to identify the suspect. Fitry was arrested on August 24, and the stolen smartphone and wallet from the second victim were recovered from him.
Fitry has been remanded for further investigation, with the court granting permission for him to be taken for questioning. Under Singaporean law, individuals convicted of housebreaking and theft can face a prison sentence of up to ten years along with a possible fine.
The police continue to encourage hotel guests to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately, underscoring the importance of security measures in public accommodations.
