Hefei’s High-Tech Zone Thrives as Innovation Hub by Waterways
As of August 19, 2025, the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone is emerging as a vibrant center for innovation and ecological balance, characterized by its unique integration of technology and nature. The area, known as “One Mountain, Two Lakes,” features essential research facilities and a bustling community, creating a dynamic atmosphere for professionals and researchers alike.
The zone is strategically located around Dashu Mountain and the lakes of Shuxi and Baiyan, which foster an ecosystem that promotes quality development. With over 95% forest coverage, Dashu Mountain serves as the zone’s “ecological lung,” preserving more than 10 million cubic meters of water annually. Shuxi Lake is home to critical national assets such as the National Quantum Laboratory and the Institute of Advanced Technology at the University of Science and Technology of China, surrounded by over 700 high-tech enterprises within a 3-kilometer radius, boasting approximately 25 firms per square kilometer.
The Hefei zone is not just focusing on technological growth but is also enhancing its human-centric development model. Authorities are implementing systematic improvements across various sectors, including ecology, transportation, education, healthcare, and governance. This holistic approach aims to create a modern, resilient, and culturally vibrant district that prioritizes livability and innovation.
Educational resources are flourishing, with esteemed institutions establishing campuses in the area. Medical facilities have undergone significant upgrades, and innovative designs, such as smart lakeside running tracks, contribute to improved living conditions. Quantum computing teams are making significant strides in core technologies, while the Grand Union of Innovation incubator is generating a new tech company every three days. Additionally, China Speech Valley experiences a surge of new AI patent filings daily, showcasing the area’s commitment to technological advancement.
Looking forward, the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone is working towards achieving “world-class high-tech zone” status. The Zhong’anChuanggu Technology Park serves as a gathering place for young talents, providing workspaces with free accommodation and entrepreneurship consultations. This environment encourages innovation and ambition against the backdrop of the region’s stunning landscapes.
The Hefei zone is leveraging its unique ecological assets to create a thriving hub for science and industry while establishing itself as an appealing place to live and work. With a focus on developing a seamless integration of nature and technology, the “One Mountain, Two Lakes” vision is set to become a model for high-tech zones worldwide, emphasizing sustainable development and human well-being.
