Eunos Fire Forces Closure of Industrial Building for Safety Checks
A fire at the Eunos industrial building in Singapore on November 1, 2023, has prompted the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to mandate the facility’s closure for safety assessments. The single-storey structure, located at 1079 Eunos Avenue 7, sustained significant damage from the blaze, which the BCA confirmed requires a thorough investigation and necessary rectifications.
The BCA announced that the owner must engage a professional engineer to evaluate the site. This assessment will focus on identifying precautionary measures to eliminate immediate hazards, conducting detailed investigations into the affected areas, and recommending permanent repairs to ensure the building’s safety.
The incident unfolded when the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received an alert regarding the fire at approximately 17:30. Firefighters worked diligently to bring the fire under control within three hours, and the blaze was fully extinguished by 23:00. The SCDF reported that three workshop units were affected, with materials and office equipment involved in the fire. Additionally, the roof of a fourth unit suffered partial damage.
In their response, the SCDF deployed sixteen emergency vehicles and around sixty firefighters to the scene. During the operation, one firefighter was assessed for suspected smoke inhalation and transported to a hospital. Another firefighter, feeling unwell, was also taken for medical evaluation. Both individuals have since been discharged and were given medical leave of four days and three days, respectively.
As investigations continue, the BCA’s directive emphasizes the importance of ensuring public safety and preventing similar incidents in the future. The situation remains under close scrutiny as officials assess the building’s integrity and the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
