ACEN has officially reached a significant milestone by achieving 100% renewable energy generation across its entire portfolio, a transition completed earlier this year. In 2016, ACEN’s installed capacity stood at 1,000 megawatts, with renewable energy contributing a mere 2% to its portfolio. At that time, fossil fuels were the primary source of energy in many regional power systems, and large-scale renewable projects were still in their infancy. Recognizing the urgent need to address climate change and mitigate the risks linked to carbon-intensive assets, ACEN initiated a deliberate shift towards renewable energy.

To facilitate this change, ACEN redefined its strategy, redirected financial resources, and enhanced its capabilities to promote clean energy across various markets. The company has taken systematic steps to reduce its reliance on coal, ultimately aiming to exit coal entirely. Today, ACEN boasts a renewable energy portfolio exceeding 7 gigawatts of attributable capacity, encompassing operational projects, those under construction, and initiatives backed by signed agreements.

ACEN, the energy arm of the Ayala Group, is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing renewable energy platforms in the Asia Pacific region, with the Philippines as its core market. Beyond its home country, ACEN has established a diverse presence across the region, including a wholly-owned platform in Australia, as well as operations in Vietnam, India, and Lao PDR. The company has also made strategic investments in Indonesia and other markets.
