Tiger Woods Withdraws from Hero World Challenge in Bahamas
Tournament host Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from the Hero World Challenge, scheduled for December 4-7, 2024, in Albany, Bahamas. The final player field was announced on Wednesday, confirming Woods’ absence after initial hopes for his inclusion as one of three exemption spots.
Woods recently underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery, leaving his return to competitive golf uncertain. The 15-time major champion has not participated in a tournament since he missed the cut at the British Open in July 2024. Earlier this year, he also had surgery in March to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
The Hero World Challenge is a charity event benefiting Woods’ foundation. In his absence, tournament organizers have confirmed that the final three participants rounding out the 20-player field will be Jordan Spieth, Billy Horschel, and Akshay Bhatia. Previously announced players include Scottie Scheffler, the two-time defending champion, and Hideki Matsuyama, the 2016 winner from Japan.
As the event approaches, fans and fellow competitors will miss the chance to see Woods, who has been a prominent figure in golf for decades. His health and recovery remain a topic of interest within the sporting community as he continues to heal and work towards a potential return to the game.
