Shannon Tan Advances to Weekend at AIG Women’s Open in Wales

Singapore’s top female golfer, Shannon Tan, successfully made the cut at the AIG Women’s Open on August 1, 2025. She finished the second round with a score of 72, placing her in a tied position for 35th. After an opening round of 73 at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, Tan’s two-day total stood at one-over 145, which comfortably placed her two strokes above the +3 cut line.
Tan’s performance at this major event marks her third consecutive weekend appearance in a major tournament. Previously, she competed at the Evian Championship in July 2025, where she secured a 59th place overall. Notably, during the 2024 British Open, Tan became the first female golfer from Singapore to make the cut at a major event, a significant milestone in her burgeoning career.
As of the latest standings, Japan’s Miyu Yamashita leads the tournament with an impressive score of 11-under par, while her compatriot Rio Takeda trails by three strokes. The AIG Women’s Open continues to attract global attention, showcasing extraordinary talent from around the world.
Tan’s accomplishments this year highlight her remarkable form. Just a month prior to her success in France, she clinched her second title on the Ladies European Tour, winning the 2025 Amundi German Masters with a narrow one-shot victory. Her first triumph came during her debut at the 2024 Magical Kenya Ladies Open, where she made an immediate impact on the professional circuit.
Having turned professional in 2024, Tan has quickly established herself as a rising star in women’s golf. In August of that year, she also made history by becoming the first golfer from Singapore to compete at the Olympic Games, further enhancing her profile on the international stage.
As the tournament progresses, golf enthusiasts will be keenly watching Tan’s performance, as she aims to continue her impressive run and make her mark in the competitive world of professional golf.
