NUS Graduate Fulfills Childhood Dream by Joining Macau Circus
Ms. Megan Lau, a 24-year-old graduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS), has followed her childhood aspiration by leaving behind a traditional corporate career to perform as a “water princess” in a circus based in Macau. This bold decision marks a significant shift from a conventional path to one filled with creativity and performance.
After completing her degree, Lau faced the typical pressures many graduates encounter. The expectations to secure a stable job and begin climbing the corporate ladder were strong. Yet, she found herself yearning for something entirely different—a chance to embrace her artistic side. Inspired by dreams of joining the circus since childhood, Lau decided to take a leap of faith.
From Business to the Big Top
Lau’s journey into the world of circus performance began with extensive training in aerial arts and acrobatics. She honed her skills on aerial ropes, investing countless hours in practice to prepare for her new role. The combination of physical endurance and artistic expression has allowed her to blend her passions seamlessly.
In her role as a “water princess,” Lau captivates audiences with her performances, showcasing both strength and grace. The circus, renowned for its spectacular shows, provides her with a platform to bring her dreams to life. “Performing in front of an audience is exhilarating,” Lau shared. “Every show is a new adventure, and I am grateful to be living my dream.”
Lau’s transition into the circus world serves as an inspiration for many young people contemplating their career paths. It highlights the importance of pursuing one’s passions and the potential rewards that come with taking risks. She emphasizes that while stability is valuable, the fulfillment gained from following one’s dreams can be profoundly rewarding.
The Future of Performing Arts
Lau’s bold move also sheds light on the evolving landscape of performing arts, particularly in regions like Macau, which serve as vibrant hubs for entertainment. The circus industry has seen a resurgence in popularity, attracting diverse talent from around the world.
As Lau continues to perform, she hopes to encourage others to explore their artistic inclinations, regardless of societal expectations. “Life is too short to follow someone else’s path,” she stated. “I want to show that it’s possible to carve out your own journey.”
With her story, Lau not only embodies the spirit of artistic pursuit but also emphasizes the importance of finding one’s place in the world—whether that be in a corporate office or a circus ring. Her journey exemplifies how passion and dedication can lead to unexpected and fulfilling careers.
