McLaren Announces Fornaroli and O’Ward as Reserve Drivers for 2024
McLaren has officially appointed Formula Two champion Leonardo Fornaroli and IndyCar racer Pato O’Ward as reserve drivers for the 2024 season. This announcement was made on January 15, as the reigning Formula One champions prepare for the upcoming season.
At just 21 years old, Fornaroli joined McLaren in December 2023 in a test and development capacity. He will support the team’s main drivers, British world champion Lando Norris and Australian teammate Oscar Piastri, throughout the season. Fornaroli’s experience in Formula Two will be an asset as he continues to develop his skills with the prestigious team.
O’Ward, who will maintain his commitments in the U.S.-based IndyCar series, served as a reserve driver for McLaren last season as well. His dual role allows him to gain valuable experience in both competitive environments, enhancing his potential contributions to the Formula One team.
In addition to these appointments, McLaren has plans for Dutch driver Richard Verschoor, who finished third in the Formula Two standings last year. Verschoor will compete in the European Le Mans series and participate in tests for McLaren as the team gears up to enter the hypercar category of the World Endurance Championship in 2027.
The Formula One season is set to commence in Australia on March 8, 2024, marking an exciting period for McLaren and its drivers. With a blend of emerging talent and experienced racers, the team aims to build on its championship legacy in the fast-paced world of motorsport.
