Max Dowman Makes History as Arsenal’s Youngest Starter at 15
Arsenal’s Max Dowman has made headlines by becoming the club’s youngest ever starter at the age of 15 years and 302 days. This milestone occurred during the League Cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion, where Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory. Dowman earned praise from manager Mikel Arteta for his impressive performance, showcasing his potential on a significant stage.
Dowman, who joined Arsenal’s youth system in 2015, made his senior debut earlier this season as a substitute. His latest achievement surpasses the previous record held by Jack Porter, who was 16 years and 72 days old when he started in the League Cup last year. During the match, Dowman stood out by making the most dribbles while also winning the highest number of fouls and duels, contributing significantly to Arsenal’s eighth consecutive win across all competitions.
Arteta expressed his satisfaction with Dowman’s attitude and skills, stating, “A tiny smile, that’s what you get with him. For him, everything is natural… it’s the way he plays and that’s the secret.” The manager highlighted Dowman’s ability to remain composed under pressure, noting, “He just does what he does best, which is to play football with a lot of courage and determination.”
In addition to Dowman, Andre Harriman-Annous, aged 17, also made his full debut as Arteta opted for a squad rotation, implementing ten changes from the previous Premier League match against Crystal Palace. Arteta commented on the importance of giving young players opportunities, saying, “That feeling of giving the opportunity to somebody and fulfilling a dream is unique, and I’m very happy that things turned out to be very positive.”
As Arsenal prepares for their next challenge, they will visit Burnley on Saturday. The team’s current form, highlighted by the emergence of young talent like Dowman, suggests a promising future for the club.
