Jason Teh Triumphs at Korea Masters, Secures Second Major Title
Jason Teh of Singapore claimed his second major badminton title by defeating Japan’s Yudai Okimoto in the men’s singles final at the Korea Masters tournament on November 9, 2023. Teh showcased exceptional skill and composure, winning the match with scores of 21-14 and 21-15 in the South Korean city of Iksan. This victory marks his second Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 300 title of the year, having previously secured his first at the Thailand Masters in February.
Throughout the tournament, Teh demonstrated remarkable consistency, not dropping a single set across five matches. His performance reaffirmed his position as the top seed, and he received a warm congratulatory message from the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) on social media. The SBA praised Teh’s determination, stating, “It was a wonderful show of what determination and belief can achieve.”
In the women’s singles final, Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Pin-Chian triumphed over Vietnam’s second seed, Nguyen Thuy Linh, with a score of 21-16, 21-15. Chiu’s victory added to an impressive day for the participants from the region.
After his victory, the world number 26 Teh is set to travel to Kumamoto for the upcoming Japan Masters. He will join fellow Singaporean and world number 9 Loh Kean Yew in the main draw of the BWF Super 500 tournament. The competition will feature Thailand’s top-ranked Kunlavut Vitidsarn as the leading seed.
Both Teh and Loh have also been announced as part of Team Singapore’s contingent for the 2025 SEA Games, scheduled to take place in Thailand next month. As they prepare for this significant event, Teh’s recent success at the Korea Masters further solidifies his status as a leading figure in Singaporean badminton, showcasing the potential for future achievements on the international stage.
