Isack Hadjar Wants His Broken Dutch Grand Prix Trophy Back
Isack Hadjar, the young driver for the Racing Bulls, expressed a strong desire to reclaim the broken trophy he won at the Dutch Grand Prix. After finishing third at the Zandvoort circuit last weekend, the 20-year-old accidentally damaged the handcrafted trophy while posing for a team photograph. Despite receiving numerous offers of glue to repair it, Hadjar emphasized that he values the broken piece as part of his racing history.
Hadjar’s podium finish came as a result of a strategic race and the retirement of McLaren’s Lando Norris from second place. The French driver qualified fourth and showcased impressive performance throughout the event. “I’ve been given glue by so many people, you can’t imagine. I could glue the whole paddock right now,” Hadjar told reporters at the Italian Grand Prix, held at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
The trophy, a product of Royal Delft craftsmanship, holds significant sentimental value for Hadjar. “Honestly, I don’t even know where my trophy is, my broken trophy,” he admitted. The team is currently taking care of it, with Hadjar noting, “I left it in good hands, both parts.” While he will receive a replacement trophy, he remains adamant about wanting the original. “I’ll get a new one, I know that, but I want my broken one… we don’t care about the new one because it’s not part of the Grand Prix history.”
Hadjar’s enthusiasm for his racing career has already earned him acclaim as a potential rookie of the year. His experience serves as a reminder of the highs and lows that athletes encounter in competitive sports.
As Hadjar prepares for the next race at Monza on September 3, 2023, he may not need any glue for the upcoming trophies, as those awarded at this event are made from aluminium, significantly more durable than his previous ceramic prize.
The racing world continues to watch Hadjar’s journey, eager to see how he performs in future races and whether he can once again secure a podium finish.
