Cadillac F1 Dismisses Christian Horner Speculation as Team Prepares for Debut

Cadillac F1 has officially dismissed speculation regarding a potential role for former Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner within their organization. The American racing team, backed by General Motors, is set to make its Formula One debut in the 2024 season as the 11th team on the starting grid. In December 2022, Cadillac appointed Graeme Lowdon as their first team principal, a decision that remains firmly in place.

Speaking to reporters, Cadillac F1 chief executive Dan Towriss, who also leads TWG Motorsports, stated, “There have been no talks with Christian Horner, no plans to do that. So I’d like to officially shut down that rumour.” Towriss emphasized the team’s full support for Lowdon, affirming their commitment to his leadership as they prepare for their inaugural season.

The speculation surrounding Horner intensified following his departure from Red Bull last month. Having been the longest-serving team principal in Formula One, he transformed Red Bull from a mid-tier team to champions within five years. The question of Horner’s future in the sport has lingered, particularly given his history with Sergio Perez, one of the drivers Cadillac announced on Tuesday as part of their first-ever F1 lineup alongside Valtteri Bottas.

Perez, a six-time race winner, previously raced under Horner’s management at Red Bull before being dropped at the end of the 2024 season. His removal from the team followed a difficult period as teammate to four-time champion Max Verstappen.

While Lowdon has not been a principal in Formula One before, he brings experience from his tenure as the chief executive of the now-defunct Marussia team. Cadillac has aggressively recruited talent from various F1 teams, including Red Bull, and has already established a larger presence than American rivals Haas. The team operates out of facilities in Indianapolis, North Carolina, and Silverstone.

Cadillac’s entry into Formula One comes with significant backing from billionaire Mark Walter‘s TWG Global, which also owns Andretti Global in North America. With an ambitious agenda and experienced personnel, Cadillac aims to make a notable impact in the highly competitive world of Formula One racing.
