Buffalo Bills Face Challenges After Two-Game Losing Streak

The Buffalo Bills are grappling with their Super Bowl ambitions after suffering a two-game losing streak, the latest setback occurring during a 24-14 defeat against the Atlanta Falcons on October 9, 2025. This loss leaves the team reflecting on missed opportunities as they head into their bye week, with reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Josh Allen expressing frustration over the performance.
“It’s going to eat at me the next two weeks,” said Allen, who completed 15 of 26 passes for 180 yards, along with two touchdowns and two interceptions during the game. He acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, “I mean, a lot of stuff to clean up.”
The Bills entered the season as strong contenders, maintaining an undefeated record until their Week 5 match-up against the New England Patriots on October 6. However, back-to-back losses have raised concerns about the team’s overall performance. While they hold a 4-2 record, their victories have come against teams with a combined record of just 3-21, including the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints. In contrast, Buffalo has yet to secure a win against teams with winning records, having lost to both the Patriots and the Falcons.
The recent defeat has dropped the Bills to second place in the AFC East, highlighting several issues. The offense, led by Allen, has appeared disorganized, while the defense struggles, particularly against rushing plays. Additionally, the team has accrued a concerning number of costly penalties.
“We’ve got to figure it out,” said Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Bills. “We’ve got to dive deep into what we’re doing, how we’re doing it, making sure we’ve got the right people in the right positions, and then the execution at the end of the day, we’ve got to start from ground zero and work our way back up.”
Despite these challenges, the Bills remain competitive in the league. The two-game skid has sparked discussions about potential roster changes, including the possibility of acquiring a top wide receiver or enhancing the defense. This situation is not unfamiliar to the Bills; last season, they overcame a similar two-game losing streak en route to winning their fifth consecutive AFC East division title, ultimately falling just short of a Super Bowl appearance.
As they prepare to face the Carolina Panthers on October 26, the Bills aim to avoid their first three-game losing streak since Allen’s rookie season in 2018. “We’ll put our focus on our next opponent and go from there,” Allen stated. “Got to get into the film room and learn from our mistakes and move on.”
With the bye week ahead, the Bills will have time to regroup and strategize, hoping to reclaim their status as serious contenders in the pursuit of the Super Bowl.
